Post Acute Withdrawal (PAWS) and 37 Signs of RelapseTeaching clients the reality of recovery that includes PAWS symptoms and signs of relapse is a critical part of the treatment process in order to prevent relapse. Participants will explore these issues and recieve information and worksheets to share with clients.
Addiction Severity IndexWhile teaching the use of the ASI forms Dr. Patterson will explore probing questions in each section of the ASI and the “red flags” that prompt further questioning. Participants will learn how to use the ASI scoring method and will have the opportunity to practice scoring the ASI.
ASAM Criteria, 4th Ed., Adult Version
In this workshop participants will learn the role ASAM Criteria plays in appropriate treatment placement, continuing care and discharge. This training will include review of levels of care, introduction dimensional criteria and severity ratings, and the importance of the Continued Stay Review. Participants will practice using criteria and placement forms.
Psychopharmacology of Addiction
It is critical that addiction professionals know the biology of addiction, how drugs work in the body and brain, and current drugs that clients are using. This is a 10 hour in-depth workshop.
6 hour Pharmacology
Unconscious Bias...Not That I Am Aware OfDuring this workshop particapants will have the opportunity to explore unconscious, or implicit, biases and how it impacts their work with clients. Through didactic, experiential and multimedia approaches each participant will be able to define their own responses to situations.
Preparing to Take the LADAC Exam
Preparing for the licensure exam for addiction counseling can be daunting for some. This training will walk through preparing to take an exam, critical areas to study and practice questions.
Group Process...More than just chatting
This workshop will explore the components of group dynamics, how groups develop, how to facilitate groups effectively and how to help group participants to engage in discussions and sharing.
Ethics of Professional Boundaries and the Client Relationship
This workshop will explore the importance of professional boundaries when working with clients and the ethical dilemmas that result when boundary violations occur.
Ethics and the Clinical Supervisor
During this training, clinical supervisors, and those working toward being supervisors, will explore ethical situations and issues regularly occurring in supervision.
2024 Changes to 42CFR Part 2
A review of the federal confidentiality laws governing protection of addiction client information will be reviewed and include the most recent updates.
Cultural Humility in the Therapeutic Environment
During this workshop, we explore our own cultural influences, what we bring into the therapeutic environment and the impact our own experiences have on our work as counselors. We discuss the difference between cultural competency and the concept of cultural humility. This workshop involves being willing to take a deeper look at ourselves from a cultural perspective.
Making Groups Engaging and Fun for Clients Part 4
If you're bored, they are bored. This interactive workshop gives participants new ideas and activities to engage clients in group. Participants will practice each activity during the training.
Ethics in the Movies
Dr. Frances Patterson will utilize examples of ethical situations from movies and TV to encourage discussion regarding ethics in addictions counseling.
Prodependency: Revisiting Codependency
The traditional view of codependency can often cast a negative view in terms of enabling and "assisting" one in their addiction. Current views of these behaviors comes from an empowering stance to help one begin to look at themselves in a positive view and to gain personal insight. This workshop will begin to reshape how we present "codependent" behaviors to clients.
Digging Deeper into Ethics for Supervisors and Counselors
During this training, frontline addiction counselors and clinical supervisors will explore ethical situations and issues regularly occurring in counseling and supervision.
